Kris Wu, famed 30-year-old Chinese-Canadian actor and pop star, is currently facing charges for alleged sexual assault in China. Depending on the severity of the charges, if convicted, he could face years to life imprisonment or even the death penalty.

On 31st July 2021, he was detained by the police in Beijing after suspicions of rape arose. Investigations are still ongoing. There are a rising number of alleged victims coming forward to press sexual assault charges against the former EXO member, amongst them is a teenager from Los Angeles who alleges that she was drugged and sexually assaulted by Kris a few years ago when he was in LA.

More females are voicing out about experiencing alleged forms of sexual assault by the pop star following an 8th July post on Weibo by 19-year-old Chinese influencer Du Meizhu’s accusations against Kris.

In light of these accusations, Kris has lost multiple endorsement deals with major brands such as Porsche, Bulgari and Louis Vuitton. Some have outrightly dropped him to prevent any further damage to their brand image while others are suspending the current contract with him.

While it is still uncertain whether Kris will be deported to Canada or facing the charges in China, both countries have strict laws for sexual assault.

It has been reported that in some sexual offenders’ cases in Canada, they undergo a psychiatric assessment and based on the expert’s opinion, they may go through chemical castration (a treatment in which drugs are used to reduce testosterone and seminal fluid in a male).
