
SINGAPORE – As of 22 August (Sunday), the total death toll from COVID-19 complications stands at 49, a recent increase from 47. A total of 12 Singaporeans, including a 91-year-old female permanent resident and an 87-year-old man, has succumbed to COVID-19 this month.
According to the MOH, the woman has a history of chronic kidney disease, heart disease, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and hyperparathyroidism. She first developed symptoms on 30 July and was subsequently tested positive for COVID-19. She had not yet been vaccinated at the time of her demise.
The second fatality involving the 87-year old man has a history of advanced cancer, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. The man was first conveyed to the National University Hospital for an unrelated medical condition on 4 August but was subsequently tested positive for COVID-19. He was partially vaccinated at the time of his passing.
Other previous cases

According to information gathered by Yahoo News, other death cases in the month of August include a 34-year-old Ukrainian man on 1 August, a 58-year-old Singaporean woman on 2 August, a 79-year-old Singaporean man on 4 August, a 63-year-old Singaporean man on 5 August, an 80-year-old Singaporean woman on 7 August, a 69-year-old Singaporean man on 11 August, an 84-year-old Singaporean man on 13 August, a 64-year-old Singaporean man on Monday, a 90-year-old Singaporean man on Tuesday, and an 82-year-old Singaporean man on Thursday.
Latest COVID-19 Status

- As of 22 August 2021, 12pm, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed and verified that there are 29 cases of locally transmitted COVID-19 infection and 6 imported cases.
- 346 cases are currently warded in hospital. With 22 cases suffering from serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation, and 7 in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU).
- As of 22 August 2021, there are 2 new reported clusters, and 6 closed clusters.
- 66,478 coronavirus cases in total since the beginning of the pandemic

About 8.6 million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty and Moderna vaccines have been administered, covering 4.5 million people, with 4.2 million individuals completing the full vaccination regimen. In total, 78% of our population has completed their full regimen/ received two doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and 82% has received at least one dose.
