SINGAPORE – On Sunday morning (August 22), the Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris arrived in Singapore’s Paya Lebar Air Base on an Air Force Two. Singapore is the first stop in her seven-day trip to the Southeast Asia region, followed by Vietnam. This trip is aimed at strengthening international ties to counter China’s increasing influence across the globe.

Upon disembarking the aircraft, Ms Harris was greeted by Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan. After briefly exchanging words with the delegation from Singapore, she left the premises in a US Secret Service owned armoured vehicle.
Today, the first female Vice President of the US Kamala Harris will be meeting with the first female President of Singapore Halimah Yacob and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. To commemorate Ms Harris first trip to Singapore, an orchid will be named in her honour. Ms Harris will also be speaking in a news conference and visiting the USS Tulsa, a US combat ship currently in Changi Naval Base.
Tomorrow (August 24), Ms Harris will be delivering a policy speech and participating in a round-table discussion with the Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong and other business leaders. Ms Harris will then be leaving for Vietnam in the afternoon.
