JAPAN – The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic games commenced on Tuesday August 24 and it has already reported 13 COVID-19 positive cases within the village, five of whom are athletes. One of the infected participants (not an athlete) is now hospitalised with non-severe symptoms.
According to Reuters, “Less than 10 per cent of coronavirus patients are hospitalised in Tokyo, and the low level of admissions has added to public frustration with the government’s COVID-19 response, undermining voter support for Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga.”
The rising number of COVID-19 cases in Japan accompanied with the less than ideal vaccination rate has the people on edge. The death toll currently stands at around 15,700.
