Trust me, they’re delicious.

Soon Lee Porridge @ Clementi Food Centre

Nothing gimmicky about this unassuming stall and its food, just straight up a delicious warm bowl of savoury goodness. While I’m not one to crave porridge much, when I do, this is my go-to place. This stall serves hearty bowls of traditional Hainanese porridge, choose from the pork, chicken or fish options. I’ve tried all three of them before and all I can say is, you can’t go wrong with any choice here at Soon Lee. Just remember to add an egg to your porridge – it elevates the dish even more.

If you’re having a late night beehoon/ngoh hiang craving, head on over to Hock Lian Huat at Choa Chu Kang. This stall offers a wide range of ingredients to go with your fried beehoon. The ingredients are deep fried so do expect them to be quite oily but apart from that, it tastes good. I highly recommend pairing your dish with their homemade chilli sauce with crushed peanuts, it enhances the flavours and completes the meal.

Karu’s Indian Banana Leaf Restaurant

My all-time favourite place to enjoy delicious Indian cuisine. Pick from a wide selection of ingredients to go with their free-flow fragrant biryani rice crispy papadums served on a banana leaf. Be sure to try their famous fish head curry, it’s a harmony of flavours.

*Although it’s located at Upper Bukit Timah Road, I would say it’s closer to Bukit Panjang

Habib Family Restaurant

This Muslim-owned restaurant serves up tasty halal bak kut teh and it’s the only one I’ve tried that actually stands out – more as its own delectable dish than a halal version of the Chinese dish. I see why it’s their signature dish. The beef is so tender and the soup is a great balance of herbs and spices, perfect on a rainy day.
