You probably saw this one coming since we’ve already done one on the west side.
Which side am I on? The side of good food 🙌.
Burgs

Founded by Indra and Ridzuan, two culinary trained individuals who used to work in Michelin-star restaurants, this muslim-owned burger joint is a hot favourite amongst locals. Their buns are delicious, fluffy on the inside and a tad crunchy on the outside. The patties are well seasoned and are oh so juicy – not overly greasy too. Plus, most of their double patty burgers with a side of fries are under $10 (apart from their branch in Orchard Road)! About that, for those of you who don’t want to travel to Chai Chee Road in the East, they’ve got 4 other outlets (the latest being 313@somerset).
The Orchard branch is worth checking out if you’re looking for more menu items apart from burgers and sides. They offer other options like salmon rolls, chicken coney dogs and lotus biscoff shakes.

Wursthans Switzerland

Quite possibly the best rösti in Singapore. The pan-fried rösti is so crispy and savoury, don’t forget to add heaps of sour cream to it because it takes the dish to the next level. You can also ‘Create Your Own Swiss Meal From $15.90’ by choosing from a list of mains (one), sides (two) and sauces (one). Worth every cent!

A1 Chendol & Durian

This store used to be called Penang A1 Chendol but has been rebranded as A1 Chendol & Durian since earlier this year. 13 years ago, I used to travel all the way to this store from the west side (it took over an hour by bus) just for their durian smoothie. Yes, I was very free back then. These days you can just order their drinks on Grabfood/Foodpanda/Deliveroo.
The durian smoothie was, and still is, in a league of its own. You can bite into actual chunks of durian flesh, not just some watered down version. Non-durian fans would be delighted to know that their other drinks also serve on taste and quality too.

Jing Long Seafood Restaurant

This Chinese restaurant started out as a humble ‘zichar’ stall at a coffeeshop more than 20 years ago. For the past 12 years, they’ve been serving tasty authentic Chinese cuisine in the same restaurant and recently won Top 3 placing in Food Master 2021 of the East-West zone. Certified delicious and no service charge!

Opening hours: Mon – Fri 11am – 9.30pm, Sat – Sun 11.30am – 9.30pm
Reimondo Seafood Congee

Last but not least, top notch seafood congee at a hawker centre. Never been much of a congee person but the wok hei gives the dish a distinct smoky flavour that elevates the entire bowl of congee. It’s thick and smooth (perfect congee consistency), every ingredient (scallops, clams, prawns, kani, salmon flakes, deep fried youtiao bits and spring onions) came together seamlessly with each bite. For $6.90, it’s truly value for money.
I’ve tried all four menu items at Reimondo’s and I can tell you this, you can’t go wrong with any of them.
