Questions
What year is an SGY car plate?
The SGY series first opened for bidding in July 2007. It was the newest series for 2 months, until SGZ in September 2007. So a car with an SGY plate was registered in July 2007 or later: a number can be bid for after its series opens, or kept from an older car, so the car can be newer than its plate, never older.
How old is a car with an SGY plate?
No older than 19 years and 4 months (in November 2026), counted from July 2007, when the series first opened for bidding. It can be younger: the plate only says when the number came out.
When does an SGY carโs COE end?
A COE lasts 10 years from registration, so a car registered in July 2007, when the series first opened for bidding, had its first COE run to about July 2017; one registered later, later still. So an SGY car still on the road has had its COE renewed for 5 or 10 more years at the Prevailing Quota Premium: see the latest COE prices and PQP, and the PARF and COE rebates for scrapping it.
What comes after SGY?
SGZ, which first opened for bidding in September 2007, then SJA in October 2007. Before SGY came SGX (June 2007).
What letter does SGY 1234 end in?
SGY 1234 X. The last letter is a checksum worked out from the prefix and the number: SGY 1 H, SGY 88 H, SGY 8888 M. Check any SGY plate.
