    Questions

Where do the prices come from?

HDB’s own resale flat prices on data.gov.sg: every HDB resale registered, with its town, block, street, flat type, storey range, floor area, lease start and price. The game uses about 3,000 real sales from the last 18 months, spread across every town and flat type, and the month each one was registered.

    How are the pairs picked?

At random, by how far apart the two prices are. The first pair is about 50% apart; each right answer brings the next pair closer, to about 20% by a streak of 5, about 11% by 10 and around 6% after that. The flat type, town and floor are left to chance, so a big flat in a far town can face a small one in the city. No flat comes up twice in a run.

How does the daily round work?

The date in Singapore picks the ten pairs, so everyone gets the same ones that day and can compare scores. They start easy and end tough. A new set comes at midnight.

    How does the leaderboard work?

Save a profile with a nickname to get on it. The streak board shows each player’s best streak ever; today’s board shows the Daily 10 scores, where only your first try of the day counts, and starts afresh at midnight. Without a profile your best and today’s score stay in your browser only. One profile works across liddat.com, Where sia? included: add an email to sign in on another phone or computer with a code.

Is it the price the flat was listed at?

No, it’s the resale price HDB registered, what the buyer actually paid. Cash over valuation is in it, since it’s part of the price. The month is when the resale was registered with HDB.

Why can two similar flats sell for so different?

Lease left counts for a lot: a block from the 1970s has decades less than a new one. So do the floor, the view, how near the MRT, the flat’s condition and renovation, and newer flat models. The card shows the lease start, floor and size; the rest you have to know your estate for.
