Questions
What year is an SMV car plate?
The SMV series first opened for bidding in August 2020. It was the newest series for 1 month, until SMW in September 2020. So a car with an SMV plate was registered in August 2020 or later: a number can be bid for after its series opens, or kept from an older car, so the car can be newer than its plate, never older.
How old is a car with an SMV plate?
No older than 6 years and 3 months (in November 2026), counted from August 2020, when the series first opened for bidding. It can be younger: the plate only says when the number came out.
When does an SMV car’s COE end?
A COE lasts 10 years from registration, so a car registered in August 2020, when the series first opened for bidding, has its first COE running to about August 2030; one registered later, later still. After that it’s deregistered, or its COE renewed for 5 or 10 more years at the Prevailing Quota Premium: see the latest COE prices and PQP, and the PARF and COE rebates for scrapping it.
What comes after SMV?
SMW, which first opened for bidding in September 2020, then SMX in November 2020. Before SMV came SMU (April 2020).
What letter does SMV 1234 end in?
SMV 1234 R. The last letter is a checksum worked out from the prefix and the number: SMV 1 C, SMV 88 C, SMV 8888 H. Check any SMV plate.
