Questions
What year is an SBN car plate?
The SBN series came out in June 1990. It was the newest series for 6 months, until SBP in December 1990. So a car with an SBN plate was registered in June 1990 or later: a number can be bid for after its series opens, or kept from an older car, so the car can be newer than its plate, never older.
How old is a car with an SBN plate?
No older than 36 years and 5 months (in November 2026), counted from June 1990, when the series came out. It can be younger: the plate only says when the number came out.
When does an SBN carโs COE end?
A COE lasts 10 years from registration, so a car registered in June 1990, when the series came out, had its first COE run to about June 2000; one registered later, later still. So an SBN car still on the road has had its COE renewed for 5 or 10 more years at the Prevailing Quota Premium: see the latest COE prices and PQP, and the PARF and COE rebates for scrapping it.
What comes after SBN?
SBP, which came out in December 1990, then SBQ in April 1991. Before SBN came SBM (March 1990).
What letter does SBN 1234 end in?
SBN 1234 M. The last letter is a checksum worked out from the prefix and the number: SBN 1 A, SBN 88 A, SBN 8888 E. Check any SBN plate.
