Questions
What year is an SBU car plate?
The SBU series came out in March 1992. It was the newest series for 5 months, until SBV in August 1992. So a car with an SBU plate was registered in March 1992 or later: a number can be bid for after its series opens, or kept from an older car, so the car can be newer than its plate, never older.
How old is a car with an SBU plate?
No older than 34 years and 8 months (in November 2026), counted from March 1992, when the series came out. It can be younger: the plate only says when the number came out.
When does an SBU carโs COE end?
A COE lasts 10 years from registration, so a car registered in March 1992, when the series came out, had its first COE run to about March 2002; one registered later, later still. So an SBU car still on the road has had its COE renewed for 5 or 10 more years at the Prevailing Quota Premium: see the latest COE prices and PQP, and the PARF and COE rebates for scrapping it.
What comes after SBU?
SBV, which came out in August 1992, then SBW in December 1992. Before SBU came SBT (December 1991).
What letter does SBU 1234 end in?
SBU 1234 B. The last letter is a checksum worked out from the prefix and the number: SBU 1 M, SBU 88 M, SBU 8888 T. Check any SBU plate.
