Questions
What year is an SCM car plate?
The SCM series came out in May 1996. It was the newest series for 5 months, until SCN in October 1996. So a car with an SCM plate was registered in May 1996 or later: a number can be bid for after its series opens, or kept from an older car, so the car can be newer than its plate, never older.
How old is a car with an SCM plate?
No older than 30 years and 6 months (in November 2026), counted from May 1996, when the series came out. It can be younger: the plate only says when the number came out.
When does an SCM carโs COE end?
A COE lasts 10 years from registration, so a car registered in May 1996, when the series came out, had its first COE run to about May 2006; one registered later, later still. So an SCM car still on the road has had its COE renewed for 5 or 10 more years at the Prevailing Quota Premium: see the latest COE prices and PQP, and the PARF and COE rebates for scrapping it.
What comes after SCM?
SCN, which came out in October 1996, then SCP in March 1997. Before SCM came SCL (January 1996).
What letter does SCM 1234 end in?
SCM 1234 G. The last letter is a checksum worked out from the prefix and the number: SCM 1 T, SCM 88 T, SCM 8888 Z. Check any SCM plate.
