Questions
What year is an SCL car plate?
The SCL series came out in January 1996. It was the newest series for 4 months, until SCM in May 1996. So a car with an SCL plate was registered in January 1996 or later: a number can be bid for after its series opens, or kept from an older car, so the car can be newer than its plate, never older.
How old is a car with an SCL plate?
No older than 30 years and 10 months (in November 2026), counted from January 1996, when the series came out. It can be younger: the plate only says when the number came out.
When does an SCL carโs COE end?
A COE lasts 10 years from registration, so a car registered in January 1996, when the series came out, had its first COE run to about January 2006; one registered later, later still. So an SCL car still on the road has had its COE renewed for 5 or 10 more years at the Prevailing Quota Premium: see the latest COE prices and PQP, and the PARF and COE rebates for scrapping it.
What comes after SCL?
SCM, which came out in May 1996, then SCN in October 1996. Before SCL came SCK (September 1995).
What letter does SCL 1234 end in?
SCL 1234 L. The last letter is a checksum worked out from the prefix and the number: SCL 1 Z, SCL 88 Z, SCL 8888 D. Check any SCL plate.
