Questions
What year is an SGM car plate?
The SGM series first opened for bidding in August 2006. It was the newest series for 1 month, until SGN in September 2006. So a car with an SGM plate was registered in August 2006 or later: a number can be bid for after its series opens, or kept from an older car, so the car can be newer than its plate, never older.
How old is a car with an SGM plate?
No older than 20 years and 3 months (in November 2026), counted from August 2006, when the series first opened for bidding. It can be younger: the plate only says when the number came out.
When does an SGM carโs COE end?
A COE lasts 10 years from registration, so a car registered in August 2006, when the series first opened for bidding, had its first COE run to about August 2016; one registered later, later still. So an SGM car still on the road has had its COE renewed for 5 or 10 more years at the Prevailing Quota Premium: see the latest COE prices and PQP, and the PARF and COE rebates for scrapping it.
What comes after SGM?
SGN, which first opened for bidding in September 2006, then SGP in October 2006. Before SGM came SGL (July 2006).
What letter does SGM 1234 end in?
SGM 1234 J. The last letter is a checksum worked out from the prefix and the number: SGM 1 X, SGM 88 X, SGM 8888 B. Check any SGM plate.
