ERP 2.0 and the OBU

The ERP system Singapore has used since 1998 is being replaced by ERP 2.0, which works by satellite (GNSS) and an On-Board Unit (OBU) in each vehicle instead of the old In-vehicle Unit (IU). For now nothing changes in how or what you pay: the same gantries charge the same rates. Every Singapore vehicle has to have an OBU (fitting began in November 2023, free for vehicles registered before 1 May 2024 if done by the deadline in LTA’s letter), and the IU is phased out by the end of 2026.

Foreign cars pay a flat S$5 a day on ERP days, from their Autopass Card. From 1 January 2027, a foreign vehicle without an OBU pays a flat S$3 (motorcycles) or S$10 (all others) for each ERP day it’s in Singapore; foreign vehicles can have an OBU fitted from 1 April 2026.

Rules checked on onemotoring.lta.gov.sg 2 November 2026: Electronic Road Pricing and ERP 2.0. Rates: LTA’s ERP rates on DataMall, via carma.sg. Where each gantry is: the ERP layer of LTA OneMotoring’s traffic map.

🚗 The data, from carma.sg

The rates come from carma.sg, Liddat’s sister site for cars. Carma reads LTA’s ERP rate table from DataMall each day, where it comes as a PDF, turns it into each gantry’s rates by time, and shares them with this page. Its ERP rates page has every gantry and which are charging now too.

Carma itself is a used-car search: every car for sale on sgcarmart, Carousell, Motorist and Carro in one place, each with a score for how good a deal it is and what it really costs a month (depreciation, road tax and loan interest), plus COE results and car tools like road tax.

Questions

Is ERP charged on Saturdays?

No. ERP charges only Monday to Friday, never on Saturdays, Sundays or public holidays.

Is ERP charged on public holidays and their eves?

Not on public holidays, days in lieu included. On the eve of New Year’s Day, Chinese New Year, Deepavali and Christmas Day, ERP stops at 1pm. LTA’s pages differ on whether the fifth such eve is Hari Raya Puasa’s or Hari Raya Haji’s, so check the gantry’s sign on those.

Which ERP gantry is the most expensive?

It changes with each of LTA’s rate reviews, and the dearest are the expressways’ in the morning peak. In LTA’s current rates:

S$6.00 for a car, at KPE southbound after Defu Flyover from 08:35 to 08:55 on weekdays, in LTA’s rates from 7 September 2026. A motorcycle pays half that, a heavy goods vehicle or small bus 1.5 times and a very heavy goods vehicle or big bus twice.

How many ERP gantries are there?

About 80, in the city and on the expressways, though not all of them charge at a time. In LTA’s current rates:

LTA’s map has 78 ERP gantries, and in its rates from 7 September 2026 33 of them charge on weekdays, between 07:00 and 20:00; the others, mostly the CBD’s and the arterial roads’, don’t charge at any time until LTA’s next review. None charges on Saturdays. Every one is listed above.

How much is ERP for a motorcycle?

Half a car’s rate: a gantry that charges a car S$2.00 charges a motorcycle S$1.00. Pick 🏍️ Motorcycle above to see every rate for one.

Do taxis and private-hire cars pay ERP?

Yes, the same as a car. In a taxi or a private-hire car, the ERP charges on the way are usually added to the fare.

When do ERP rates change?

LTA reviews them every quarter and changes them in the June and December school holidays, by each road’s traffic speeds. The rates on this page are LTA’s current ones, and the line at the top says since when.

What is ERP 2.0?

The new ERP system, which uses satellites (GNSS) and an On-Board Unit (OBU) instead of the In-vehicle Unit (IU). Every Singapore vehicle has to have an OBU, and the IU is phased out by the end of 2026. Charges and rates stay as they are for now, at the same gantries.

How much ERP does a Malaysian car pay?

A foreign car pays a flat S$5 for each day it uses ERP roads while they charge, from its Autopass Card when it leaves. From 1 January 2027, a foreign vehicle without an OBU pays S$10 a day (S$3 for a motorcycle) for every ERP day it’s in Singapore.

What if I drive through ERP with no card or too little on it?

LTA sends an SMS about the missed charge. Pay it within 5 days and that’s all; after that a letter comes, and it’s the charge plus a S$10 admin charge. A Singapore vehicle with no IU or OBU at all pays a S$70 penalty for each charging gantry.
