Questions
What year is an SBY car plate?
The SBY series came out in June 1993. It was the newest series for 3 months, until SBZ in September 1993. So a car with an SBY plate was registered in June 1993 or later: a number can be bid for after its series opens, or kept from an older car, so the car can be newer than its plate, never older.
How old is a car with an SBY plate?
No older than 33 years and 5 months (in November 2026), counted from June 1993, when the series came out. It can be younger: the plate only says when the number came out.
When does an SBY carโs COE end?
A COE lasts 10 years from registration, so a car registered in June 1993, when the series came out, had its first COE run to about June 2003; one registered later, later still. So an SBY car still on the road has had its COE renewed for 5 or 10 more years at the Prevailing Quota Premium: see the latest COE prices and PQP, and the PARF and COE rebates for scrapping it.
What comes after SBY?
SBZ, which came out in September 1993, then SCA in December 1993. Before SBY came SBX (March 1993).
What letter does SBY 1234 end in?
SBY 1234 E. The last letter is a checksum worked out from the prefix and the number: SBY 1 S, SBY 88 S, SBY 8888 Y. Check any SBY plate.
