The CGPA is each letter-graded course’s grade point × its academic units (AU), added up and ÷ the AUs of every letter-graded course you’ve taken, failed ones too.
Not counted: Pass/Fail courses, and courses you use the Flexible Grading Option (FGO) on: an A to D becomes a P, which earns the AUs, and an F an NR (No Record), which doesn’t and isn’t on your transcript. You can use it on up to 21 AU on a 3-year programme or 24 AU on a 4- or 5-year one (21 part-time), 12 of them at most on Major Core, ICC and MPE courses, but not on a Final Year Project or internship.
Questions
What CGPA is first class honours at NTU?
NTU’s top class is Honours (Highest Distinction), a CGPA of 4.50 to 5.00. The classes are Honours (Highest Distinction) 4.50 and above, Honours (Distinction) 4.00 to 4.49, Honours (Merit) 3.50 to 3.99, Honours 3.00 to 3.49 and Pass 2.00 to 2.99. In Engineering, Computing and Science it also takes a good Final Year Project grade.
How is NTU’s CGPA calculated?
Each letter-graded course’s grade point (A+ 5.0, A 5.0, A- 4.5, B+ 4.0, B 3.5, B- 3.0, C+ 2.5, C 2.0, D+ 1.5, D 1.0 and F 0.0) × its AUs, added up, ÷ the AUs of all the letter-graded courses you’ve taken, failed ones included.
Does FGO count in my CGPA?
No. With the Flexible Grading Option an A to D becomes a P and an F an NR, and neither is in the CGPA; a P earns the AUs. You have 21 AU of it on a 3-year programme and 24 AU on a 4- or 5-year one (21 part-time), at most 12 on Major Core, ICC and MPE courses.
What grades do I need for Highest Distinction?
With a CGPA of 4.20 over 66 AU and 66 AU to come, Honours (Highest Distinction) takes an average of 4.80 in them (between A- and A), and Honours (Distinction) 3.80 (between B and B+). Put your own in the calculator.
Does my FYP grade matter for my class?
In some colleges. Engineering (but Maritime Studies) and Computing and Data Science (but DSAI) need a B+ or better FYP for Highest Distinction; Science (but Chinese Medicine) an A- for Highest Distinction and a pass for Distinction. Humanities and Social Sciences students who opt out of the FYP can’t get either.
Are my grades sent anywhere?
No. It’s all worked out in this page: your grades and units aren’t sent anywhere, kept or put in its address.
